SCRIPPS RANCH, SAN DIEGO
The affluent community of Scripps Ranch is located within the city of San Diego, east of I-15 and south of Poway. The land was first developed in the 1890s by wealthy newspaper mogul E.W. Scripps, who built himself a massive mansion and surrounded it with eucalyptus trees. The original size of the ranch was 400 acres, later expanded to 1,200 acres.
Today, this picturesque bedroom community has much to offer residents and visitors alike. Scripps Ranch is now home to roughly 36,000 residents, many of them employed by such prestigious companies as LG, Lockheed Martin and Hitachi. High-end shopping is plentiful in Scripps Ranch, while such outdoor activities as fishing and boating are popular among many residents. The now-historic eucalyptus trees remain intact, especially noticeable along Pomerado Road.
